I have finally managed to get some use out of my E-mu card! For months this was lying dormant because it was installed on an old 1ghz 512MB ram Windows box which was retired in favour of a 2.5ghz Quad Core with 4GB Ram.
When I moved to the new PC, I decided to go with Ubuntu as main (and only) operating system. I wanted to see just how far I could get with free software. I also love a challenge…

I have an E-mu 1820m in my computer that was working fine until I upgrade to quad core ans a window 7 and now I cant get any sound

Eddy, I don’t use windows 7 (for many reasons). The instructions I outline above are for Ubuntu.
The nature of the CPU, i.e. quad core, will have no bearing on the issue (my machine is quad core).
Recently switched to linux from windows, and had all but given up hope on getting any use from my 1820. I was hours away from hooking up my on-motherbaord-board audio (arrrggg!) to my speakers, when i found your post. Thanks so much!
